Why does the solar cable need cross-linking irradiation?

01
The characteristics of
solar cable and the basic differences between ordinary cable

With long term exposure to the sun and rain, photovoltaics systems are often used in harsh environmental conditions such as heat and ultraviolet radiation and rain showers. In some countries or regions, sunny days will result in on-site temperature of the solar system as high as about 100 °C. At present, we can use a variety of cable materials PVC, rubber, TPE and high-quality cross-linking materials, but unfortunately, the temperature resistance of 90 ° C rubber cable, and even the rated temperature of 70 ° C PVC cable is often used in outdoor, in order to save the cost of cables, many contractors choose to use ordinary PVC cables instead of direct current solar cables for solar system, which will obviously affect the service life of the system.

Benefits of irradiation of solar cables

The characteristics of solar cables are determined by their special insulating and sheathing materials. We call them crosslinked PE, crosslinked PO, XLPE or XLPO, in order to provide all aspects of its performance. Resistance to mechanical loading in fact, during installation and maintenance, the cable can be wired at the sharp edges of the roof structure, while the cable must withstand pressure, bending, tension, cross-tensile loads and strong shocks. If the cable sheath strength is not enough, the cable insulation will be seriously damaged, whh will affect the service life of the whole cable, or lead to short circuit, fire and personal injury risk. The anti-ultraviolet performance and flame-retardant effect of the on-line cable have been greatly enhanced, the cable’s waterproof ability and the performance of resistance to acid and alkali have been enhanced, so the irradiation process of the solar cable can not be omitted, this is whether can continue, long-term stable use of the necessary link.

Attention in the process of solar cable irradiation

Before irradiation, check whether the conductor at the end of each cable is fully grounded. It is forbidden to irradiate the cable without grounding. The properties of low-smoke halogen-free flame-retardant polyolefin irradiation materials are special to the irradiation process, so the following points should be paid attention to during irradiation:

3.1 Before irradiation, check whether the conductor at the end of each cable is fully grounded. It is forbidden to irradiate the cable without grounding.

3.2 The absorbed dose of the insulated wire core and the sheath during irradiation shall be subject to the qualification of the thermal extension test.

3.3 The surface of the irradiated insulated wire core and sheath layer should be smooth, free from oil pollution, color and lustre no obvious difference, do not allow any abrasion, fuzzing, cracking, bubble and other phenomena, printing should be clear and rub-resistant.

3.4 The traction and take-up speed should be coordinated with the beam adjustment to avoid over-dose or under-dose. 5. After irradiation, the insulated wire core and sheath shall be grounded and fully discharged, and left for 48 hours before being transferred to the next process.
